Mumbai:
In the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), additional 2 crore passengers will get services per year from the redevelopment of Terminal 1 (T1). This is 42 percent higher than the current capacity. This information was given by the airport on Tuesday. The redevelopment of Terminal 1 will be completed by 2028-29. Its built-up area will be more than two million square feet. This will be a benchmark of customers’ convenience and digitization.
According to a statement by CSMIA, which is managed by Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), the first phase of modernization of T1 will begin in November this year.
Terminal 1 will be done in stages to reduce disruption in operation of the airport. The initial stage involves demolishing the existing structure. It will start from November 2025, after which a new terminal will be constructed.
CSMIA T2 is to be commissioned in 2025 with Navi Mumbai International Airport. This will have the minimum effect of demolition of T1.
Both airports together will accommodate passengers and flight programs, fulfilling the increasing demands of both Mumbai City and Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
Adaani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL) director Jeet Adani said, “The CSMIA team is working closely with our parties, ensuring smooth changes with minimal disruption in daily operations or passenger experience.”
On completion of 2028-29, the new terminal 1 in the CSMIA will emerge as a symbol of sustainable innovation, which will set a global standard for the design of the environmental conscious airport. T1 in CSMIA aspires to become India’s first brownfield, biofilic, sustainable airport.
A state -of -the -art infrastructure will be created in the redevelopment. This includes District cooling, state -of -the -art power sub -station and modern baggage handling system. These changes will improve every aspect of the operation of the airport, whether it is air or ground.
CSMIA has become the first airport in India, recognizing the prestigious Level Five from the globally famous Airports Council International (ACI).
