Shahjahanpur, Amrit thoughts: In the month of March, there are obstacles in front of the Holi festival in front of the team of the tax assessment officer, which is in the target of 100 percent recovery. Domestic general taxpayers are avoiding recovery by saying that the festival is celebrating, while the big traders want to deal with closing first. In the midst of all these problems, the Chief Tax Assessment Officer has issued attachment notices to more than 300 defaulters for recovery of outstanding arrears of more than four crores, as well as warned that 12 percent interest will be imposed on those who do not pay taxes.
Last year, notices were issued to 37 big defaulters who did not pay the arrears, some of whom had deposited the arrears, but some half-stricken and sat silently. The Municipal Corporation still has crores of rupees on the owners of property tax in the metropolis. Some more than one crore 55 lakhs are outstanding tax of more than 44 lakhs. Such people are being constantly asked to deposit tax and notices have also been issued, yet the defaulters are not paying attention.
Now preparations for clamping on such defaulters have been completed. Municipal officials said that there was a tax of Rs 12 crore in the financial year in the metropolis, against which tax of about eight crore has been charged till March 5. Now those who are big defaulters, and are making excuses to give arrears, attachment notices have been issued against such people and the number of small defaulters is in hundreds. The recovery campaign is also going on against them. Even after the attachment notice is issued, if the taxpayers do not cooperate in the recovery, then their property will be seized.
Municipal corporation officials said that more than half of the recovery has been done, it is expected that in the tax collection campaign we will reach near 100 percent recovery. Attach notices have been sent to about 300 defaulters. Some of these defaulters are also arrears on last year. These defaulters have been given 15 days time. If the defaulters did not deposit the tax till 31 March, then they will be imposed an interest of 12 percent from April 1.
The municipal warning action has caused a stir among the defaulters. At the same time, government departments owe about 13 crore tax, including more than five crore on Mandi Committee, more than two crore on roadways, more than one crore on PWD, besides other government departments are also owed. The recovery of these government departments is stuck on the government grant.
Attach notices have been issued to the big defaulters of property tax. Notices have been given to about 300 people, most of them are traders. Closing time is going on, it is possible that these people will start getting dues after 25 March. If the tax is not paid by 31 March, then the defaulters will start charging 12 percent interest.– Vipin Dilip Singh, Chief Tax Assessment Officer, Municipal Corporation.
