The single bench of the Rajasthan High Court has directed the state government to start a portal to register symbiosis (live-in) relations. Hearing many ‘live-in’ couples’ petitions, Justice Anoop Kumar Dhand said that until such a law is made, ‘live-in’ relations should be registered with the competent authority/tribunal. In the petitions, the ‘live-in’ couples requested to provide security.
The bench said, “Many couples are living in ‘live-in’ and they are threatened by their families and other people of the society due to their relationship not accepted. Therefore, by filing the writ petition, they are knocking on the doors of the courts and requesting for the protection of their life and freedom. “The court said,” The idea of being in a relationship may seem unique and attractive, but in fact it arises. There are many problems faced, as well as challenging. In such a relationship, the condition of a woman is not like a wife and she lacks social acceptance or purity. ”
The bench said, “The live-in relationship agreement should be registered by the competent authority/tribunal established by the government.” It said, “It said,” To see the case of registration of such live-in relations in every district of the state. A committee should be constituted which will pay attention to the complaints of such couples and will redress them. A website or web portal should be started in this regard so that the problems faced by such relationships can be resolved.
The bench directed that a copy of the order should be sent to the Chief Secretary of Rajasthan State, Principal Secretary of Law and Justice Department and Secretary of Justice and Social Welfare Department, New Delhi to look into the matter so that the order/instruction issued by this court Necessary action can be taken for compliance. The court has also directed to submit a compliance report to this court by or before March 2025 and to make this court aware of the steps being taken by them.
