Noida Students Space Discovery: A 14 -year -old boy from Noida has shown such a feat, which you might not be sure to hear. Daksha Malik, a student of class 9th of Shiv Nadar School, has discovered an Esteroid, which has also been recognized by NASA. Not only this, after this discovery, now Daksha will also get a chance to name him. Currently, this estroid is being recognized by the temporary name of ‘2023 OG40’. The journey of discovery of this international level started with an email. Daksha and his two friends received an email from their school’s Astronomy Club, which told about the International Asteroid Discovery Project (IADP). This is a civil science initiative associated with NASA, which gives students from all over the world a chance to find an estoroid. Daksha and his team downloaded the dataset from IASC (International Astronomical Search Collection), then calibrated them with the help of Astronomica Software. After this, studying light emission and object movement carefully.
Space passion from National Geographic
Describing this experience as fun, Daksha said, “I felt as if I was working in NASA.” Daksha was always interested in space and universe. Seeing the documentary on National Geographic, he learned about big planets and galaxies. This project involves more than 6,000 people every year, but very few of them actually find Esteroids. Earlier, only 5 Indian students had got such an opportunity to name an Esteroid.
Thinking the name, blow everyone’s senses
Now Daksha is in the mood to take this discovery one step further. The list he has made to think the name of Esteroid is also quite interesting. Currently, two of his options are most discussed:-Destroyer of the World, CountDown.
NASA final seal remains
Now NASA will do the final verification of this discovery, which may take 4-5 years, but for Daksha, this journey is no less than a dream. This journey from a common Indian student to becoming an asteroid discover is really amazing. Now just waiting for what he names his Esteroid.
