Someshwar Nath Temple
One of the most prominent temples of Prayagraj is Someshwar Nath Temple. This Shiva temple is located in Arail village of Yamuna coast. It is believed that this temple was founded by the Moon itself. According to the legend, Daksha Prajapati, the father of Mother Sati, cursed the moon in anger, causing the moon to become karupa. The Moon reached Lord Shiva after this incident. Only after this, at the behest of Lord Shiva, the Moon established the Someshwar Nath temple and stayed here and started worshiping Mahadev. The tuberculosis of the moon was cured by this puja.
Shri Bade Hanuman Temple
Another ancient and major temple of Prayagraj is Shri Bade Hanuman Temple (Shri Bade Hanuman Mandir). Hanuman ji is lying in this temple. The length of the lying Hanuman ji’s idol is about 20 feet. This temple is also called a temple with dams.
Nag Vasuki Temple
Nag Vasuki Temple is located in Daraganj of Prayagraj. This is the temple of Nag Devta and Nag Vasuki is called the king of the serpents. According to mythology, Nagaraj Vasuki was injured by rubbing the Mandarachal mountain during the sea churning and Lord Vishnu asked him to go to Prayagraj. According to it, Nag Vasuki had rested in this temple itself and when the mother Ganga came to earth from heaven, he went straight to the Hades and her torrent fell on the fun of Nag Vasuki. Due to this entire incident, this place is also called Bhogwati pilgrimage.
Shankar Mandapam
Another major temple of Lord Shiva in Prayagraj is Shankar Vimana Mandapam. This temple is located at Triveni Sangam. This temple is built in memory of Shankaracharya. The height of this temple is said to be about 130 feet and it comes under the count of grand temples.
Veni Temple
The Veni Temple is located in Daraganj, Prayagraj. After bathing in Mahakumbh, one can also go to visit the Veni temple. In this temple, Vishnu is the form of Lord Veni Madhav and mother Lakshmi is sitting here with him. It is believed that for the safety of Prayagraj, Brahmaji established his twelve forms from Lord Vishnu. Since then, Lord Vishnu is sitting here. It is considered very auspicious to visit this temple.
