Sri Lankan Navy was fired near the island of Delft on Tuesday morning. In the shootout, 2 Indian fishermen were seriously injured, to which India has reacted strongly. The Acting High Commissioner of the island nation in India was summoned in the Ministry of External Affairs and a strong protest was lodged.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, 3 other Indian fishermen were also marginally injured in the shootout. The ministry said, “This morning, while catching 13 Indian fishermen near the island, the firing by the Sri Lankan Navy was reported.”
The ministry said, “2 of the 13 fishermen on the fishing boat have suffered serious injuries. He is currently undergoing treatment at Jaffna Teaching Hospital. 3 other fishermen have suffered minor injuries. He has also been treated. “

Sri Lankan acting High Commissioner summoned
The Ministry of External Affairs said, “The acting High Commissioner of Sri Lanka, New Delhi, was called to the Ministry of External Affairs this morning and a strong protest was lodged against the incident.” Colombo -based Indian High Commission has also raised this matter before the Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry.
The current consent should be strictly followed
The Ministry of External Affairs strictly said, “The Government of India has always emphasized the need to dispose of issues related to fishermen in human and human way, in which earning concerns have been taken into consideration. Use of force is not acceptable under any circumstances. . The current consent should be strictly followed between the two governments in this regard.
Indian Consulate officials meet fishermen
Meanwhile, officials of the Indian Consulate in Jaffna met the injured fishermen in the hospital and came to know about them. He assured fishermen and their families of all possible help.

These are not the first time, fishermen of both countries often cross the sea border of the country for fishing. India has always been opposing the use of force in such cases. It has been in favor of strictly following the current consent on this issue.
