Amrit Vichar, Gorakhpur: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Thursday that the state government has planted 210 crore saplings in the last eight years, which has led to a significant increase in the forest sector despite rapid urbanization and industrial development. At the National Conference on the National Clean Air Program in Gorakhpur, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of ensuring the existence of these trees. He said that the government has joined hands with the Forest Research Institute in Dehradun and a university in Chhattisgarh to periodically assess the survival rate of plants and report its findings to the state government to monitor the plantation from third parties.
Adityanath said, “210 crore saplings have been planted in the entire state in the last eight years and their existence has also been ensured.” The Chief Minister said that about 70-75 percent of the plants planted by government departments, while 65-70 percent of the plants planted by private and voluntary organizations have survived. He said, “States across the country have made efforts to plant saplings, but Uttar Pradesh has made remarkable progress in increasing its forest area during this period.” He said that it is an important achievement to achieve this progress in a state with rapid growing population, new industrial projects and large -scale infrastructure development. The Chief Minister said that such efforts should be continued to help reduce carbon emissions. Adityanath also expressed concern over pollution and mist in the Delhi-NCR region and said who should be held responsible for the rising pollution level? He said that due to the Ujjwala scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, air quality has improved to some extent.
Under this scheme, 10 crore families have been provided free LPG cylinders. The Chief Minister said that however, many people still burn wood and coal, causing air quality to deteriorate. In order to adopt clean fuel from people, he said, “When smoke comes out, especially by burning coal or wood, people living closest to the source are the most affected. This directly affects their health, especially their lungs and eyes. ”He called for more awareness and collective efforts to promote clean energy solutions to effectively deal with air pollution.
