Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has also taken care of many such sections in her budget speech, with the issues related to which everyone has been drawing attention to her in the recent round. These include about one crore ‘Gig’ workers associated with online platforms. The Union Minister announced the Social Security Scheme for him and said that the government will give them an identity card. After this announcement, the faces of workers associated with online platforms like Uber-Ola and Jomato-Swei have come to smile.
When Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman gave a big gift to the job profession by giving exemption in income tax, then the faces of Gig workers also blossomed after their budget speech. He said that the government will arrange identity cards and registration on the e -ram stage to assist one crore ‘Gig’ workers.
What did Finance Minister say in budget speech?
While presenting the Union Budget, the Finance Minister said that the scheme will be implemented for the socio-economic upliftment of urban workers. He said, ‘Gig’ workers of online platform provide important mobility in the service economy of the new era. Honoring his contribution, our government will arrange for their identity card and registration on the e -ram portal.
Also said, “They will be provided health care under the PM Jan Arogya Yojana. This measure is expected to help about one crore workers.”
Till now 12 schemes of various central ministries or departments have been associated with the e -ram portal.
Central government’s step appreciated
Dinkar Vasistha, Vice Chairman of Swiggy’s Corporate Affairs, said that the Center’s decision to bring temporary employees under health insurance through Pradhan Mantri Arogya Yojana is commendable.
Vashistha said in a statement, “Swigy and many other forums have been providing health and other types of insurance to our ‘delivery partner’ for the past several years under some best international trends. We will wait for a detailed description to understand how insurance can be provided in the best way, ensuring the interests of our delivery partner. ”
Appreciating this announcement, the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh said that registration on e -ram portal for gig and forum workers will ensure their identity and inclusion in the social security structure.
Deepika Mathur, Executive Director of Deloitte India also welcomed the move and said that the announcement of health facility is a commendable step for her. Mathur said, “He will be given healthcare under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana. About one crore gig workers are expected to benefit from this measure.
Who are Gig workers?
Employees like delivery services for e-commerce companies fall under the category of Gig workers. These include people associated with online platforms like Uber, Ola, Swigi and Jomato.
‘Gig workers’ are called workers whose work is unlikely. In other words, they do some work temporarily and then they change their work when they get a better opportunity.
