In the budget, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced on Saturday that the government will construct an additional infrastructure in five Indian technology institutes (IITs) and expand the IIT in Patna, the capital of Bihar. He said, “The total number of students in 23 IITs in the last 10 years has increased from 65,000 to 1.35 lakhs 100 percent. Additional infrastructure will be prepared in five IITs launched after 2014 so that 6,500 more students can get education. The capacity of hostel and other infrastructure will also be expanded in IIT Patna. ”
The Finance Minister also announced that 10,000 fellowships will be provided for technology research at IITs and IISc in the next five years. He said, “Five National Excellence Centers will be established for skill development with global expertise and partnership and 50,000 Atal tinkering laboratories will be established in government schools in the next five years to create scientific thinking in the minds of the youth.” Sitharaman said that broadband connectivity will be provided to all government secondary schools and primary health centers in rural areas.
