The eight -year -old rape victim died on Thursday after struggling for a week at the Joint Military Hospital (CMH) of Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka. The country had shook the country of this incident and protests were held across the country to demand justice. According to the report of the chief Bangladeshi newspaper The Daily Star, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that the girl died in CMH at around 1 pm.
According to the office of the Chief Advisor of the Interim Government, on Thursday morning, the girl was arrested several times while staying on the life -saving system at CMH’s Pediatric Intensive Medical Unit (PICU). The statement said that the girl was arrested three times on Thursday morning – although the doctors stabilized her twice, but her pulse did not return after the third. The girl was admitted to CMH Dhaka in critical condition on 8 March.
Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus has expressed deep grief over the incident and directed the concerned officials to bring criminals under the purview of justice without delay.
According to the case lodged by the victim’s mother on 8 March, the girl was raped when she went to her elder sister’s house in Magura city.
It is alleged that the sister’s father -in -law committed this crime. According to the police, the sister’s husband allegedly supported the crime. He said that the rapist’s wife and elder son were also aware of the incident and later he also tried to kill the girl to hide it. The victim’s sister’s husband, mother-in-law and brother-in-law have been arrested and kept on remand.
In recent times, many students and teachers from various universities across the country, including Dhaka University, North South University, Independent University, Bangladesh and Rajshahi University, demonstrated against the increasing rape incidents including rape of an eight -year -old girl in Magura and demanded strict punishment for criminals. There is a lot of resentment in Janata due to the failure of the interim government in preventing crimes against women. Many people demanded the resignation of Home Affairs advisor Jahangir Alam Chaudhary and blamed the Unus -led Interim government for spoiling the law and order situation across the country.
