The main theme of the National Information Center of Earthquake Engineering Workshop held at IIT was Teaching Earthquake Resistant Structure in undergraduate architecture design studio. The workshop said that we kill buildings, not earthquakes. Pro. Sudhir’s Jain, Prof. CVR Murthy, Prof. Javed N Malik and Prof. Durgesh C Rai said that emphasizing the construction of earthquake structures to prevent this, stating that the architects in earthquake security should be included as key stakeholders.
Prof. Javed N Malik of the Department of Earth Sciences of IIT explained the importance of earthquake engineering at the workshop. Participants were provided with the knowledge and skills required to integrate earthquake resistant design principles in the graduate course. Participants received guidance from experts about using seismic strategies in architecture projects. Prof. of Shivpur IIEST Keya Mitra emphasized the role of the National Information Center of Earth Engineering in broadening the faculty network.
Pro. Chinmay Kole discussed the previous earthquakes in the country to the participants, which led to the establishment of the National Information Center of Earthquake Engineering. Faculty members of architecture programs across the country gathered and agreed to pursue teaching practices for earthquake resistant design. In the workshop, Prof. Vasudha Gokhale, Prof. Meera Shirolkar, Prof. Bhavan Vimawala, Prof. Ruchira Das, Prof. Attanu Kumar Dutta were included.
